The B-3 looks like a small R-8, not a Morse...in profile. It is 3.093 OAL, with a .649 diameter that is 2.312 long then the 9 deg 8min taper starts to produce a head diameter of .800. draw bar is 7/16-20. the 1970's Catalog I have says : #2 Morse used on M and T heads. B-3 Used on T heads.
Re: R-8 collets sticking in Bridgeport spindle. Normally the taper will grab them fairly tight and require knocking the collet down with a sharp impact to the top of the draw bar with the wrench used to loosen it. Do not remove the drawbar threads completely. Just loosen the drawbar and give it a fair tap.

For collets I've got a mix of Royal/Hardinge R-8s that came with the mill and work well. But I did buy a new set of Lyndex brand collets that are very nice. Drill chucks are easy. Get a Jacobs super chuck or Albrecht with the integral R-8 shanks. I've used both in school. At home the Jacobs are used in the lathes or drill press.

After posting I was informed that my lathe has an H taper on the spindle end. It is quite possible that the adaptor sleeve that came with the lathe is 5C inside. So I am am going to find a 5C collet and see if it fits into the sleeve in which case I will buy a set of 5C collets and make a collet closer to fit. Thanks for the reply. Dick W

Morse 2 spindle uses Morse 2 collets. These heads also used Brown and Sharpe #7 taper though, which look the same but are not interchangable. In both cases you can use either a tang drive tool which relies on the taper alone to hold the tool in, or you can use tools with draw-bar threads.
Bridgeport originated the R8 design somewhere in the 1950's. Tony has a page of Bridgeport collet dimensions, probably taken from Bridgeport literature. The R8 drawing clearly shows an inserted thread. I suppose the insert was harder than the collet body to enhance the life of the collet.

I'm behind in my reading and so last night came across your collets in an article by Guy Hanson in Digital Machinist, Winter 2009, Volume 4, No. 4, Pages 29-30. Drawing and the G code to machine them on a Tormach Duality lathe in a Tormach mill! (Appears they are the same collet for M-Head and J-Head BP Quilll Masters.)
Take three equally old, equally hard-done-by mills? The MT and B&S will need de-burred. They will have been used seldom with collets, and their collets bear longer against the spindle taper even with relieved center of span and an internal grip a good deal shorter on the tooling. The R8 will need REGROUND.

Here is a quick and dirty method of checking the spindle. Use a nice straight 1/8" rod and feed it up into the spindle laying it on the taper allowing the bottom end to protrude. Compare the angle of the portion protruding out of the spindle with the angle on the collet using the center line of the spindle as a reference. If they don't match ...
